UPDATE Week of Feb 5

Bird's eye view of our beautiful city.

Celebrating Jacob C

Jacob has a summer birthday so we decided to celebrate him in January

We were low on matches

Sky is the limit for this amazingly talented, kind, and cool dude.

Leader Lunch with Christy B

One of our employers, Christy Bellis, spoke to the Fellows this week.

Christy's Leader Lunch is one of the highlights of the year. Her story really resonates with the Fellows, and she is not afraid of giving "real talk."

She is also a successful business owner, founding TheGoTo during the pandemic. The newsletter now reaches tens of thousands of people across the triad.

If you haven't subscribed, do so today

Class with Martha M

Speaking of highlights. Martha Metzler brought her unique insights and style to the Fellows and the Fellows scooped it up.

We are better because of you Martha! Thank you!

She speaks with her hands

and David S

As does David Speakman.

Although David's secret weapon of choice is the whiteboard.

The dude is a wizard with a dry erase marker.

A truly fun week to be a Fellow

Serving at Samaritans

On Wednesday, we spent the afternoon with the guests at Samaritan Ministries.

Jan Kelly and one of the volunteers shared their stories.

Afterward, we split up into two groups. One group set up the computer lab which has been out of service since Covid began.

The second group did a re-org of their storage areas.

A good time was had by all (see pics In the More Photos for proof)

Church Life

Church is a big part of the Fellows year. On Sunday, Dharma visited Reynolda Community Church with Ian and Gracie

Across town, Noah helped lead worship at River Oaks

Class Life

We have had an incredible time with our two professors this January. Martha Metzler and David Speakman seriously rock.

We also have been enjoying this rug recently donated to the house. Thanks Reena!!!

UPDATE Week of January 22

Soooo Good To Be Together

this update is FULL of goodies...the highlight for sure was the Testimony Advance. It was such a gift to get away and give each other space to share and listen to our stories.

LEADER LUNCHES!!

Tiffany Thompson. ex CIA. current Rock Star. Does she have a story to tell????

You need to learn more about her consulting work called Artistic Leadership.

http://tiffanythompsonmusic.com/

David Barksdale. Community Banker. Promoter of Culture. BBQ Enthusiast.

David Barksdale brought the heat (no surprise for those of you who know him). My favorite part of the way he tells his story is the way he talks about the mentors in his life who have lifted him up.

David is a lifter in my life. And for that I am grateful.

CLASSES RESUME

We came out swinging with two heavy hitters. Martha Metzler knocked out socks off with her message on mental health. Then, David Speakman gave us an overview of the entire Bible in just a shade under an hour.

ALUMNI SIGHTINGS

Owen Wood and Joanna Lyall (board alum)

Callie and Meg

Jazmine Johnson

Alumni Happy Hour, with a drop in from Board Member Justin Bailey

ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCEMENT

Tori Ellingson!!! She found love on...you guessed it...the ultimate frisbee field. And we couldn't be more excited for her! Congratulations, friend!

RUNNING FOR HOPE

Justin Bailey (board member) picked the coldest day of the year to celebrate his birthday and raise support for H.O.P.E.W.S. (Help our people eat). He runs his age every year. This year, he convinced Ned to run with him.

The good news was Ned thought Justin was turning 47 and was wrong.

The bad news was Justin turned 46!

Brutal!

What we do for love, am I right?

Congratulations Justin on an outstanding event.

TOAST

We christened our new hang out in Old Salem.

Lot 63 should be open to the public soon!

TESTIMONY ADVANCE

The best news is that the Fellows had an amazing weekend at the beach.

One at a time over the course of four days, the Fellows each get a chance to share the long version of their stories. What a gift!

It became a tradition at the end to dog pile the speaker.

Dog Piles

Polar Plunges

We could off on Saturday with a Polar Plunge.

Noah highly recommends.

Star Tipping

We had some night fun on the beach, star tipping and collecting treasures.

Beach Fun

We played during the day as well.

Ian became a mermaid

Lots of Love

Some of the best times were meal times.

RECRUITMENT

UPDATE Week of November 6

A full week! in more ways than one. Schedule...Minds...Hearts...and Souls...

 Round Table

We had a fantastic time with the Frick Family Monday night. Their kids fit right in. We also had a few special guests, Rony and Pebbles. Landon, the Darrel and Brooke's son helped Ned with worship. And we managed to dress up!

A feast...in more ways than one.

Halloween

Chik-fil-a representing

A smattering of Neds

Leader Lunch

Lynn and Dickie Brewer were wonderful hosts for Leader Lunch. They both shared and the time flew by. What a gift they are to the Fellows, and this world!

National Conference

The Fellows Initiative National Conference was Thursday through Sunday in Washington DC. 4th Presbyterian in Bethesda, MD hosted us.

Day 1

Travel Day.

We made it in time to explore the city a bit before the evening session. There were about 300 of us in attendance. Afterward, the Fellows and Directors went out for a drink at World of Beer.

A great night. Looking forward to a great conference!

Day 2

Day 2 the Fellows heard from David Spickard, former Executive Director of Jobs for Life and currently the owner of a consulting firm called 11 Ten. He spoke on the purpose of work and the integration of work and justice. We took copious notes. There were also discussion groups and breakout sessions throughout the morning and evening.

In the afternoon, the Fellows explored DC. They checked out the National Gallery, the Air and Space Museum, as well as the Washington Monument.

Ned and Hef had a special gift awaiting us at Ebenezer Coffee. Christina Sandstedt (Year 1 Fellow) and Reiley Burris (Year 4 Fellow). They go to the same church and are in the same small group!

Small world!

Day 3

Day 3 we heard from Denise Blevins who is the Executive Director of Parakaleo Ministries that cares for church planters (primarily women). She talked about the intersection of Church and Social Justice and inspired us greatly. She really left it all on the field.

There were discussion times and breakout sessions as well this day.

Half the group spent the afternoon at the Postal Museum and touring around downtown.

The other half played ultimate frisbee! We mixed and matched teams. Winston-Salem (most of us) went undefeated.

A great time.

UPDATE Week of October 23

Oh what a beautiful morning!

WELCOME TO THE WORLD!

We are celebrating Ada Grace McConnon born this past Saturday at 9:44pm, weighing 7lbs.

Christian and Sydney are doing well!
The Fellows keeps on growing. What a blessing!

WELCOME TO THE GANG!

Speaking of adding to our numbers. Philip Maghen wisely asked Caroline Filston to marry him. She said yes!!!

HALEY WAS BORN!

We had the fun of wishing Haley a happy birthday. Festivities lasted all week. With a cinnamon bun on Monday. Wednesday, bring the actual day. And a sunrise birthday hike on Saturday!

No complaints here. She is worth it!

Happy Birthday Haley!

ROUND TABLE

The Snow's dog was very happy to host Round Table on Monday

The table was long and rectangular.

The sunset was all right.

A great night was had by all. The highlight was a time of sharing from our hosts. What a great reminder that the Lord is Lord through the good times and the hard times.

Thank you!

LEADER LUNCH

We had the very best Leader Lunch speaker on Wednesday (a little biased, I know). Dr. Lia Erickson.

Her story is so inspiring!

Thank you!

CLASSES

We wrapped up our two fall seminars with Katy Benoit and Joe Moore on Friday. We should tape them!

Thank you Katy and Joe for your faithfulness and service. We love you!

SUNRISE HIKE

Most of the Fellows woke up at 4:30am and headed up the hills to Stone Mountain State Park to watch the sunrise.

It was super windy as evidenced by Jacob's scarf.

It was a beautiful beautiful morning

We had breakfast at Cracker Barrel on the way home.

YUM!

Jacob had worked up quite an appetite.

FALL FUN

UPDATE Week of October 16

We got the chance to tell the Fellows story at the Lewisville-Clemmons Chamber Non-Profit Showcase this week.

TIME MANAGEMENT AT ROUND TABLE

We had a delightful dinner at the Gardners home on Monday. Ned did his best to not spill sand on their beautiful carpet as he performed the Big Rock demonstration.

LEADER LUNCH AT WINSTON STARTS

Steve Lineberger was a most excellent Leader Lunch speaker. What an exemplar of the integration of faith and work he is.

FAMILY AND MENTOR DESSERT

The Rainey's hosted a dessert for this year's Family Friends and Mentors. We got to know each other, shared stories, answered questions, and prayed. A great night.

NON-PROFIT SHOWCASE

BREAKFAST AT THE FOLLOWS HOUSE

The Fellows cooked themselves a breakfast feast on Saturday morning!

SPEAKING AT NCS

On Thursday, Ned woke up early to speak at NCS East which is held at Forsyth Seafood. He returned the favor for Guy since Guy pinch hit for the Fellows a few weeks ago at our leader lunch!

DISC GOLFIN

The Fellows went on a disc golf excursion on Saturday afternoon. Not sure who had the lowest score.
