Hef and Ned headed to the Lewisville Chamber networking event and had a blast! What a well done event!
UPDATE Week of Oct 10
We are fresh off my favorite weekend of the Fall - the WS Fellows Fall Advance. It's this weekend that often stands out as one of the pivotal moments for the Fellows. It is a time to reflect and rethink and get more vulnerable with each other and bond. It often is the weekend when the group finally glues together. This weekend was no different. What a special special time .
Fellows Page!
The 2022-23 Fellows Page is up on our website. Check it out!
We also are upping our instagram game. Make sure you follow us! @wsfellows
Leader Lunch with Lia
We had a talented, brilliant and drop dead gorgeous speaker for Leader Lunch this week: the distinguished Dr. Lia Erickson!
We have a few Fellows interested in healthcare. We all were, but they in particular, were hanging on her every word. What a day!
Covid Care
We had a couple Fellows come down with the crud. The Fellows did a fantastic job caring for them. Can you say - care package delivered via window!
Fall Advance
The Fellows went to the mountains this weekend...
Hef and Molly glued their faces together. Just kidding.
Wyatt caught a whopper.
Callie caught her first ever fish!
Thomas dinged the bell
Meg took the reins
The girls beat the boys in the hamster wheel race
A barrel full of Fellows
Hef dominated on the track
Emi played with fire
Lucy and Hef were code name champs
Lucy and Jazmine danced the night away
Jacob and Emily!
Jacob got his girl!
And live streamed the proposal!
Congrats Emi and Jacob! Can't wait to celebrate with you.

Praise! We got a satisfactory photo of our group! Woo Hoo!
Ned Just Keeps On Getting Older!
We celebrated Ned's birthday on Monday at the Miller Mansion! It was extra special for the old Nedster as there were several alumni who popped in to also share the love.
Leader Extraordinaire
Wednesday, we had a fantastic Leader Lunch with Steve Lineberger, a true leader of leaders. Thanks Steve! You never disappoint.
Farm Life
Believe it or not, we are the only Fellows Program in the world that lives on a farm. I mean, I have no idea how we would entertain these kiddos without Tutti Fruitti and a horse escape!
The donkey almost knocked on our front door!
SAM and EGGS
Several Fellows woke up extra early to help serve at the annual Sam and Eggs Breakfast. Some of our past Fellows were in attendance as financial contributors! What!!!!
Drew Holcomb and all our Neighbors Came to Town
It was very kind of Drew Holcomb to come to town so that everyone in Winston-Salem could have a chance to come together and catch up with each other.
Ned Voluntarily Goes Under the Knife
Ned went under the knife on Thursday to address a nagging hernia in his neck. The surgery was successful. Praying for a swift recovery.
Ned honestly feels great. And LOOKS great with his new turtleneck.
The best news is that his voice is totally shot, so the rest of us don't have to listen to him!
Hoping it returns by the weekend as he is scheduled to give two talks!
COVID rears its Ugly Head
We are not out of the woods yet. Poor Callie and Lucy tested positive for Covid. Erg. Callie Is on the mend and Lucy is asymptomatic, praise the Lord.

UPDATE Week of September 27
FINDING OUR RHYTHM
We have learned over the years to ramp up our programming for the Fellows. Each week in September, we map on one more element until we get to our weekly rhythm. This week, we have finally arrived! All that to say, the Fellows have not been idle. Far from it! Here are a few things we have been up to the last week.
Boys and Girls Round Tables
Our first three Round Tables have been hosted this year by Fellows Alumns! How cool is that?
Thank you to Hayes and Haley Mabry!
Thank you to the Miller Mansion (Caleb, Owen, Sam and Wil)
Thank you to the Hawthorne House (Bryn, Caroline, Louise and Michelle)
What a gift you all are!
Jayson Sloan for the Win
We had to make a quick substitute for our Leader Lunch two weeks ago. Fortunately, we have an incredible bull pen.
Jayson Sloan, one of our newest Board Members, stepped up and brought the heat!
I had the privilege of going to hear him twice that week as I visited St. Peters World Outreach
Dr. Anthony Atala blows our Minds
We had the honor of spending a couple hours over at WFIRM (Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine) with Dr. Anthony Atala.
Dr. Atala shared his story as well as insights on how his faith has impacted his work and how his work has impacted his faith. It was mind-blowing!
Afterward, we were able to get a tour of the facilities. What a cool experience to see Real Life Science NON-Fiction!
Thank you Tony!
Hanging Out at Hanging Rock
We were in Emi's element two Fridays ago as we took class on the road to spend the morning learning from God's Creation.
The crew.
Meg does not want me to tell you who won
What an awesome day! We are so blessed in the Piedmont to be so near so many state parks and other beautiful places.
Center For Creative Leadership
Thursday and Friday, we spent in Greensboro with the Greensboro Fellows, no less, at the center for Creative Leadership.
We spent two days thinking and learning about Self-Awareness, Communication, Learning Agility, and Influence.
Thank you Creative Team for your facilitation.
We ended our time together sharing Vision Statements and speaking truth over each other. POWERFUL!
Mattie's Wedding!
To no one's surprise Mattie was a beautiful bride!
And threw a party for the ages. So happy for them (Mattie and Trad). May the Lord rest his favor on you, your marriage, your family, and the community where you live.
Rahel's Engagement!
We also celebrate first year Fellow Rahel's engagement.
You are one lucky ducky Zach!
September Birthdays!
September is definitely loaded with birthdays. This ain't all of them, but last week we celebrated Sydney's, Louise's and Caleb's back to back to back!
Thomas Laws is coming up this Thursday.
Even the Co-Director had one!

AND...WE'RE OFF!!!
We have kicked off our Seventh Class of the Winston-Salem Fellows!
I couldn't be more excited and grateful for this group of men and women. They are ALL IN. You may notice we are a few less this year. But don't let that fool you into thinking that this group is any less. We got some world changers right here.
MOVE IN
We welcomed families and carried boxes for it felt like days - oh yeah, it was! Fellows started moving in over the weekend all the way up to 11:45am on Wednesday!
Lucy (above) took three days driving here from Colorado!
Jazmine brought an entourage!
ALUMNI WELCOME BONFIRE
Fellows from several classes organized a bonfire for us on Tuesday night.
It was a ton of fun. Anna Rose fits right in! How did that happen!
ORIENTATION
We were blessed once again by the generosity of a Winston-Salem family to allow us to spend several days at Lake Norman for our Orientation Advance.
We played my favorite game
We went for a hike in the state park
And we sealed our time together with several Fellows traditions.
Truly, we are off to a great start!
WS OPEN
Saturday afternoon, we were invited to take part in another wonderful Winston-Salem tradition by attending the finals of the WS Open!
I have never sweated so much!
Thankfully, the after party was indoors!
BOARD PICNIC
We reinstated a Sunday evening picnic after a few years of Covid breaks. What a sweet relaxing time.
FIRST DAY OF WORK
Jazmine is ready for Day 1
Thomas created his own First Day poster!
FIRST ROUND TABLE
the Fellows came over to Casa Erickson for our first Round Table of the year.
The goats were a big hit.
RECRUITMENT
Unfortunately, Steven is too old to be a Fellow (he could actually run the Fellows if he wanted to - he has far surpassed his old Young Life leader in every way).
BUT! He would love for you to help us recruit for next year so Calvary Baptist can become one of our newest church partners.
If you know someone recently graduated or graduating in 2023 - it is not too early to put us in touch! We are already talking to a few potential recruits!

Chilly Philly hosted a little get together/fundraiser for our beloved friend Tripp. We just honored his one year homecoming to be with Jesus.
Big sigh.
And also - check out Chilly Philly - they do water ice right!
Farewells
We had a treat this summer to keep Mallory here in Winston while she was starting her new job with 321 Coffee in Raleigh. Go there next time you are in town.

Recruitment Update
We have been on Eight Fellows all summer. Every time we think a new recruit is coming our way, something come up. It has been frustrating.
But that does not diminish one bit our enthusiasm for the 8 Fellows joining us this year.
ALSO! You never know. In the last 24 hours, we have been introduced to two potential fellows. So keep praying friends! And if you know of a recent college graduate who is still trying to find their place - well, it probably means they are supposed to be a Winston-Salem Fellow. So send them our way and put them out of their misery!

UPDATE Late July
July has been full of fun and celebrations.
Fun on the 4th
Several years of Fellows and friends went to the Dash game for baseball and fireworks!
Never Too Late For A Wedding Reception
Christian McConnon and Sydney were married in January during the crazy blizzard that never really materialized (do you remember that?) They moved their wedding and postponed the reception for the summer.
It was worth it. WHAT A NIGHT!
Lots of old friends. And lots of dancing!
Oh. And a reminder to never leave Trent Hancock alone!
Birthdays
Caroline Wolfe threw her fiance, the one and only Garrett Briggs a birthday party.
Anna Rose had a sweet sixteen and scored a new ride.
Here is Ned realizing he was dropping off Anna Rose at the horse barn for the last time.
This horse girl scored herself a truck! Giddy-up!
She said YES!
Speaking of being in the works since January. Owen pulled off one of the big surprises of the summer by convincing Michelle to plan a surprise party for his birthday, all the while, he was planning to surprise her with a proposal!
Hef was a primary schemer.
And they pulled it off!
What a fun celebration! Can't wait for the real deal!
Congratulations Owen and Michelle!

We had the joy of helping Callie and her mother Gigi move in some stuff! Class of 2023 is becoming real y'all!

Update Late June
CELEBRATION TIMES
June is the month when we can take a brief breath. We get away with family, reflect, evaluate and begin the big gear up for next year.
As the month comes to a close, there is the inevitable - Holy Moley! It's July! How did that happen? Summer just started!
Maybe you are feeling that, too.
But before we get into the business (or busy-ness) of it all - we want to take a moment to celebrate some special moments.
Hayes and Haley Mabry!
There was a bonfire and a building of an infamous picnic table which all led to this beautiful match made in heaven! Haley was a four three fellow. Hayes was a year five. It was been pure joy watching them bond over rock climbing, hiking, music, coffee and their love for the Lord.
Congratulations!
Luke and Montana Hoffman!
Luke Hoffman married his college sweetheart, Montana, on a beautiful farm not too far from Appalachian State, where the two of them met.
I know Luke is excited to move on from having thirteen roommates to just one! We are thrilled that the two of them have found a place to live right in West End!
The Fellows danced the night away. One of us woke up pretty sore! I'm not saying which one it was, but he may or may not be the one photo-bombing.
MOVING ON UP
Caleb here is starting a new job here in Winston-Salem at Baird. He was introduced to this group earlier this year through one of our classes, and it has been fun to see this opportunity materialize for him.
Fellows are also finding homes away from the Crossnore House - always bittersweet.
One thing that makes it less bitter is that most of the Fellows - 13 of the 14 are staying here at least through the summer!
WANT TO GET INVOLVED?
As hinted at earlier - there are a lot of puzzle pieces that need to be put together. THIS IS THE TIME TO RAISE YOUR HAND if you are interested in getting involved with the Fellows Program this year.
We are looking for:
Employers
Mentors
Family-Friends
Volunteer Opportunities
Round Table Hosts

Fellows Update - The Great Alaskan Mission Trip!
After a two year hiatus, the Fellows were able to pull off a mission trip!
We decided back in January that it was too risky to go overseas, so we limited our choices to the United States. Of course, we chose the most remote place we could think of...ALASKA!
Kodiak Island to be exact.
An island where there are more bears than people!
Yes, we did see one, bears, that is.
We saw a lot of other things too!
We were hosted by some dear, new friends at Kodiak Baptist Mission. They are incredible folks. Check out their website to learn more about them.
Other than the travel (I don't really want to talk or write about it), the trip was absolutely positively amazing. Get ready. There are a lot of pictures in this post. I've separated them by day.
Are you ready?
Here we go!
TRAVEL TO
After a false start that caused a full day delay in our trip, we made our way across the country, first, arriving in beautiful Anchorage.
Our delay enabled us to take a quick side trip to visit one of Winston-Salem's greatests - Katherine Bell!
She and her husband Klaus introduced us to the best pizza ever - Moose's Tooth!
Thank you Katherine!
The next morning, we took the quick trip over to Kodiak Island
DAY 1 - Arrive, Animals, Woody Island, White Sands Beach and Settling In
Kodiak Baptist Mission, in addition to being an outdoor school and preschool and afterschool program, is also a working farm! They are the only certified goat dairy farm in Alaska. We were able to sample the goat ice cream - yum!
Luke was able to fulfill a childhood dream and feed goats!
Wil got to be first mate on our excursion to Woody Island.
There are no bears on Woody Island, so there are cows and horses!
Jamo took a dip
This is the view from Kodiak Baptist Mission!
DAY 2 - Work Day, Bear "Hunting", and Creek Hike
We spent most of the day working around the farm. Three of us weed-wached every blade of grass we could find.
Others resurfaced all the horse stalls
After dinner, we went hunting for bear - we actually saw one on some salt flats. Super cool. Then, we went hiking up a creek into this other-worldly slot canyon.
This photo was taken at 11pm!
DAY 3 - Work, Fossil Beach, Cliffs, Surfers Beach Baptism, Horses, and Affirmation
We spent the morning moving dirt
They moved us around
To move more dirt
After lunch, we traveled to Fossil Beach to explore and climb cliffs and search for fossils
The biggest eagle's nest I have ever seen
Ismael actually found a fossil!
Afterward, we went to Surfer's Beach where Molly got baptized!
DAY 4 - Work, Abercrombie State Park, Whale and Orca Sighting and Sweet Time Together
We got to love on some kiddos in the morning
And scoop poop
After lunch, we went to Abercrombie State Park to explore and climb cliffs and look for whales (we saw Fin Whales and Orcas!)
DAY 5 - Work, Sushi, Three Sisters, Mission Statements and Ending Well
A group of us hiked Three Sisters Mountain. It was a cloudy windy day - more Kodiak Island like from what we here.
This is what the mountain looks like in the sun
This is what the mountain looked like for us!
Can't quite capture how windy it was
But we made it!
HOME AGAIN
We had a long long long trip home too. Here we are sleeping in a park in Anchorage
Keep sharing the story and spreading the love, y'all
May Update
WOW!
I don't know about your May, but the Fellow's May was Crazy!
There was much sweetness, some of it bittersweet, as we wrapped up Round Tables, Leader Lunches, Service, and Classes.
May 12, we had our end of year Celebration - truly a highlight of the year.
On May 14, we headed on our end of year Mission Trip to Alaska! We will tackle Alaska over the next few weeks.
This Update will focus on the last few weeks of the program!
ROUND TABLES
Thanks to the Askews, Trollingers, and Ericksons for hosting us for Round Tables!
We were able to take advantage of the time together to celebrate a few Fellows bithdays as well as prepare for our Mission Trip!
Grateful to be outside once again!
LEADER LUNCHES
We had two of our very best Round Tables to finish up the year. Above, we were hosted by Keith Vest of the Variable.
Below, we had Joshua Swift over to the Fellows House for a great afternoon lunch. My favorite part are conversations after lunch!
We also had a great lunch by committee at the Baird Group!
CLASS
We finished strong with classes with Nigel Alston (always a fan favorite) and Steve Angle who mesmerized us with Scripture and stories!
Thank you guys for using your gifts for us!
GRADUATION CELEBRATION
Oh what a night!
It was beautiful weather and beautiful people and beautiful blessings spoken over each one of our incredible Fellows.
Our year end celebration really is one of those little windows into heaven!
Thank you Board for your work putting this event together.
And thank you employers, mentors, family friends, Bible study leaders, community volunteers, special friends, and families! for making this event so special.
SERVICE
We also wrapped up community service for the year both on the neighborhood front and with the sweet children at Crossnore!
A special shout out to Ashlyn and Jamo who faithfully served despite having their church dissolve halfway through the year! I'm so proud of the two of them.
Face painting, 9 Square and fun at Crossnore with the kids!
NATIONAL CONFERENCE
It was fast and furious, but the Winston-Salem Fellows took our nation's capital by storm at the end of April for the National Fellows Conference.
Doing some DC shopping!
TRIPP'S HERO
This was a no-brainer for all of us - but Sarah Angle our 2022 graduate was award the first ever Tripp's Hero award for her service to the community.
We could not be more proud of Sarah. Well done good and faithful servant!
RECRUITING
We are looking for a few more fine Fellows to join our class for 2022-23.
If you know of a recent college graduate who would benefit from a year of professional and personal development, please connect us to them.
email their contact to winstonsalemfellows@gmail.com today!
